Some professions only become visible for a few weeks each year, yet the amount of planning, creativity and physical work behind them often goes unnoticed. Photographing The Christmas Decorators Worcester introduced me to a profession I had never really considered before, revealing the craftsmanship involved in transforming everyday spaces into festive environments.
Throughout the shoot, I documented the installation process, paying close attention to the details that most people never see. Every decoration, ribbon, bauble and display is carefully planned, installed and adjusted to suit each individual space. Behind every finished Christmas display are countless hours of design, preparation, teamwork and problem-solving.
As part of Made By Hand: An Insight Into The Hidden Paths Across Our Palms, this series explores another form of invisible labour. People often admire the finished decorations without considering the hands responsible for creating them. Through these photographs, I wanted to celebrate the creativity, precision and dedication required to bring the magic of Christmas to homes and businesses every festive season.
