Visiting Laura's home studio was one of the most fascinating experiences throughout the development of Made By Hand. Before this shoot, I had never really stopped to consider how a handmade lampshade came to life. Like many everyday objects, they're often appreciated for their beauty without much thought for the hours of craftsmanship behind them.
Photographing Laura in her own creative space allowed me to document the entire process, from carefully selecting fabrics and measuring materials to stretching, assembling and finishing each lampshade by hand. Rather than focusing solely on the finished products, I wanted to reveal the precision, patience and problem-solving involved in every stage of production.
This series reflects one of the central ideas behind Made By Hand: An Insight Into The Hidden Paths Across Our Palms. The objects we interact with every day often have invisible stories behind them. By documenting Laura's craft within the environment where it naturally unfolds, I hoped to celebrate the quiet skill and dedication that transforms simple materials into beautifully handcrafted pieces.
