Worcester Living History 2026
Rather than focusing on a single maker, this series documents the people who bring history to life through historical interpretation, traditional craftsmanship and public education. These photographs were taken during Living History in Worcester 2026, where I met a number of passionate reenactors, researchers and historical specialists who dedicate countless hours to preserving skills, stories and knowledge that might otherwise be forgotten.
Initially, I travelled to Worcester to photograph a single participant. However, when plans unexpectedly changed, I adapted my approach and immersed myself in the event itself. Speaking to reenactors, historians and craftspeople reminded me that Made By Hand was never just about individual professions, it was about recognising the people whose work often goes unnoticed. Every costume, weapon, medical instrument and demonstration represented hundreds of hours of research, making and practice before the public ever arrived.
Through environmental portraits and documentary-style photographs, I wanted to capture not only the visual spectacle of the event but also the invisible labour behind it. These images celebrate the dedication required to preserve history and share it with others, demonstrating that heritage itself is a craft kept alive by the hands of those willing to recreate it.
